Our favorite books about all things letters:

  • Letters from Felix by Annette Langen:  We found this treasure of a book at a thrift store and it is one of our favorites!  It contains real letters with stamped envelopes and tells the story of Felix's disappearance and adventures around the world, paralleled with his friend's sadness.  The ending is not to be missed.  Join Felix on more adventures as he joins the circus, celebrates Christmas around the world, and even travels back in time.
  • The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allen Ahlberg:  This is one of my all time favorites from my own childhood!   An unforgettable book and story illuminating the joy of mail from a long time ago.  Open the book and it's many letters to reveal fairy tale and Mama Goose characters corresponding to each other and discover what they all have to say.
  • Snail Mail by Samantha Berger:  A beautiful tribute to the good old days, when "snail mail" was exciting and an adventure in wonder.  This book also highlights America, its many national monuments and celebrates the magic of the handwritten letter.
  • The Post Office Book: Mail and How it Moves by Gail Gibbons:  We are huge fans of Gail Gibbons and we love how her books easily answer our so many questions about the world.  In this gem of a book children learn exactly how and what happens to our mail and how it arrives to its destination.
